Used 2018 PRS S2 Standard 22 Satin Black with Case

PRS built the S2 line in Maryland as a stripped-down alternative to the Core guitars, and this Standard 22 shows the idea well: a solid mahogany double-cut with a thin satin black finish and not much else getting in the way. This one has also been upgraded with Fishman active pickups, which gives it a very different voice than the passive pickups it left the factory with.

The body is solid mahogany with PRS's asymmetric bevel carve, and the neck is mahogany too, set into the body rather than bolted on. That all-mahogany build is where the sustain and thick, woody midrange come from, a lot like what you get from an SG or a Les Paul Junior. The satin finish is thin, so the wood is free to resonate, and it feels smooth under your hand with no sticky gloss on the back of the neck.

The neck is PRS's Pattern Regular shape, a comfortable rounded C that sits between a slim and a medium profile. The rosewood fingerboard has a 10" radius, 22 frets, dot inlays and a 25" scale length. That scale sits between a Fender and a Gibson, so string tension is balanced and bends are easy. The nut is 1.656" wide, and the upper frets are easy to reach thanks to the double cutaway. It's a super comfortable guitar to play.

For hardware you get the PRS patented tremolo, which holds tune well and is easy to set up, plus PRS S2 locking tuners for quick string changes.

With the Fishman pickups installed, the guitar is quiet at high gain and keeps its clarity at any volume, so it works for everything from clean chords to heavy rhythm playing. While we like PRS pickups in general, it's cool to see something different on an S2 Standard 22 like this, making it the only out there like it. You can get a variety of sounds that are suitable for various genres and style - this ends up being a very versatile guitar.

Any PRS S2 Standard 22 is a nice choice but this one steps it up. It's in great condition and as an added bonus comes with a hardshell case. The techs in our shop have set it up to play perfectly, and it's ready to go.
